This Week in RUF
RUF CHANGE OF TIME
Well, it's finally here. The RUSH..oh, sorry... "recruitment" festivities have begun all over campus. For those of you with the audacity to ask, the answer to your question is "Yes, OF COURSE we will be having RUF on the week of RUSH, though so many of you will be otherwise detained." But there is one change:RUSH Advent means that RUF is moving our meeting time back a half hour. That means that starting October 15th, RUF will meet at 8pm FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR. Please help us out (and help us save on our text messaging bill) by passing this word along to your friends.
FALL CONFERENCE 2008
Our speaker, Dr. Brian Chapell... "one 'P,' two 'L's'"Honestly, my heart goes out to you if you missed our Fall Conference this year. We had a GREAT time in Memphis at "For The Kingdom" camp. But by far, the best part of the conference was getting a chance to hear our speaker, Dr. Brian Chapell, talk to us about how the Bible instructs us to be holy. Honestly, this is MUST listen-to material. So in order to make it as convenient as possible for you to listen to, we have included the links to his messages here as well as posting them all on an iTunes page as well. So drop these gems on your iPod and give them a listen the next time you have the time to listen in. I promise you won't be disappointed.
Message One- Use For The Useless
Message Two- Seminar on Sanctification in the Bible
Message Three- High Jump Holiness
Message Four- Hope's Journey
INTERNET ACCOUNTABILITY
Hmmm, well, you're lying if you say that you don't have any worries when you sit down with your laptop in front of you at hours when you probably ought to be in bed or out with friends. Temptation on the web is both pervasive and dangerous. For many folks to whom I've spoken, the struggle for keeping one's conscience clear while working on their computers is a very hard, daily ordeal.Well, to that end, RUF National has acquired a discount with one of the leading internet accountability services called "Safe Eyes." Safe Eyes has multiple ways in which they can be of help to you. First, they have an internet filtering service that keeps you from having access to certain sites deemed unhelpful or dangerous by Safe Eyes. Second, they also have a remarkably helpful software solution that doesn't keep you from going anyway on the internet, but does keep track of those places where you visit and sends a report of where you've been on the net to an accountability partner of your choosing. The "fear of man" can be a helpful way to at least get a leg up on your struggle to keep sane online.
So it at least deserves a look on the website. This is a real problem that isn't going to go away without help. Maybe visiting this website will be a great first step for some of you.
SMALL GROUPSYes, they are back. This semester, we have one slightly different twist on our small groups: "grade" small groups. That is, we have always had a Bible study especially for freshmen (Tuesday afternoons, Union 4th floor, 3:30p) and a Sophomore Bible study (Thursday afternoon, 4pm, location TBA). This year, we are adding on a Junior/Senior small group on Monday afternoons at 4pm (location TBA). This means that you'll be able to find a small group time for you no matter what your schedule is like. And don't forget, most of our Greek Bible studies are going to be back this Fall as well. Stay tuned for more news.
